  1. Prior knowledge exists
  2. Prior knowledge is active
  3. Trigger predictions - while retrieving new knowledge think about how it can be used and what predictions can be made (see also [question-formulation-technique])
  4. Make meaningful connections to new information
  5. Allow time for (re) consolidation page
