Cognitive apprenticeship
Cognitive Apprenticeship
An approach to teaching / learning complex skills based on the premise that Much of expert knowledge is tacit, therefore the learner must see (and then practice) knowledge in action (in context) to acquire the processes through which knowledge is applied for a given domain of expertise.
Teaching approaches are grounded in Situated Cognition and draw on techniques such as
- modelling
- coaching
- scaffolding
- articulation
- reflection (see Reflective Learning)
- exploration
