Efrat Furst suggests that for practical application of the Reconsolidation effect to acquiring new knowledge the following steps are required:
- Prior knowledge exists
- Prior knowledge is active
- Trigger predictions - while retrieving new knowledge think about how it can be used and what predictions can be made (see also Question Formulation Technique)
- Make meaningful connections to new information
- Allow time for (re) consolidation page
