Progressive Summarisation
Progressive Summarisation
A process of Sensemaking through iteratively distilling knowledge to improve accessibility, whilst retaining the progressively deeper notes from earlier stages to support in-depth re-access to the material.
The technique should be applied judiciously, allowing interest and resonance to guide areas of focus.
The more refined later iterations are not inherently different from the Permanent Notes approach, although the original author recommends all layers are kept within the same logical note, exploiting tools such as emboldening and highlighting before writing summaries.
Only at the most advanced layers of the approach are new notes suggested, as syntheses and new aggregates of underlying material.
